"The demand for Belgian Conference Pears is currently at the right level," says Marc Evrard of the Belgian Fruit Auction. “Traditionally there is less product available during the holidays, which means that there is a balance between supply and demand. Due to the good demand for Conference, it is currently a question of matching supply to demand. We see a smooth flow of supply from Conference to the final destination, which benefits the quality and the stocks.”

Due to the good demand for Conference pears, prices are at a good level. “The trend is rising slightly and both the extra class and the class 1 and 2 is gradually declining. This gives you a nice solid foothold in the market," says Evrard. “The difference is huge compared to the previous season. The quality and taste of the pears is very good this year. We also do not expect any major quality problems for the coming period, because the results of the constant monitoring are very positive. ”
“Sales are well spread and we see healthy demand from all over Europe. We expect more supply from next week, but when there is more activity coming from the packaging side, we hope that those extra pears will also find their sales quickly. We do not expect a fundamental change in the market situation for the coming weeks. Although there are many factors involved, there is currently no reasons to assume that the current situation will change soon, "Marc concludes.
