Turkey is the 18th largest economy in the world. It has a population of 82 million people. It is not a member of the European Union. It does, however, have a free trade agreement with that Union. Turkey's economic growth is slowing at the moment. Retail has, however, been increasing over the past five years.
That is thanks to the young, dynamic city populace. These people are, on average, 32 years old. There is also a growing middle class. The retail sector is modernizing. This is at the expense of smaller and more traditional retailers. In 2018, a total of €31.371 million was spent in modern supermarkets. In traditional stores, that spending amounted to €29.392 million.
The United States Department of Agriculture published an Exporters Guide to Turkey. It contains more information about the Turkish economy. It also has several addresses that may be of interest to exporters.
