Nuts and sweet potato popular on Spanish menu

In 2018, Spain imported almonds worth 498 million euros and pistachios worth 98 million euros and demand is expected to continue to increase. The aging of the population in Spain, with 46.5 million inhabitants, has consequences for trends in eating patterns. The new (organic) fruit and vegetable products that adapt to a healthier lifestyle are an emerging trend. Pecan nuts, hazelnuts and sweet potatoes are for sale in Spain, but not in large quantities, so they offer good opportunities for producers.

The Spanish economy is still recovering, but is not growing fast. A growth of 1.8% is expected for 2020.
