Chinese goji berries' peak export season falls around Christmas

“Chinese goji berries' peak export season falls around Christmas. The volume of orders from Europe and the United States for our products began to increase significantly from the end of November. The export volume is expected to continue growing through to mid-January. We are very happy to see that more and more Chinese goji berries are entering the kitchen of overseas consumers,” Lu, Manager of Ningxia Zhongning Goji Industry Development Co., Ltd. shared.

The export markets of the Ningxia Zhongning Goji Industry Development Co., Ltd. include Japan, North America, South America, Europe, and Southeast Asian countries. Asian countries, such as Japan and Thailand, historically have higher market acceptance for this product, but over recent years, goji berries have increasingly been included in the diet of European and American consumers.

People like to add goji berries to bread, pastry, and beverages as a garnish or seasoning. In addition, overseas markets have gradually learned that consuming goji berries in the winter has the health benefit of keeping your body warm. Over recent years, the trend of gifting goji berries during Christmas has gradually become popular among Western consumers. Therefore, the Christmas season each year has also become the purchase season for European and American customers.

Our order volume has increased significantly since the end of November, and the peak export season is expected to continue through to mid-January. In China, we expect to usher in another peak sales season during the forthcoming Spring Festival. As goji berries are usually gifted to relatives and friends during holiday visits, we have also launched a variety of products packed in gift boxes for consumers to choose from.”

When talking about the company's overall export performance in the past year, Mr. Lu said, “Our total export volume in 2019 was about 3,800 tons, an increase of about 15% compared with 2018. Markets that have seen significant increases in the export volume include Africa, South America, and the Middle East. Prices have been relatively stable this year. At present, the export price of the traditional product is about $10/kg, and that of the organic product is about $11/kg. "

"Overseas markets, especially certain European countries, have become more stringent in their inspection and quarantine requirements for imported Chinese goji berries. In general, it is getting more and more difficult for Chinese goji berry companies to export to the European market each year, and the total export volume is decreasing year by year."

"In order to improve the product quality and better meet the needs of overseas markets, we improved the management of the whole chain from the field to the consumer last year and developed production facilities and inspection and testing centers that follow good manufacturing practices for pharmaceuticals. By building a Chinese goji berry brand, we hope to show more overseas consumers the professionalism and high quality of the Chinese goji berry production industry. "
