Gamper Gemüsekulturen supplies Switzerland with vegetables from the dark

"Wet autumn delayed the harvest and made further processing difficult"

Gamper Gemüsekulturen from Stettfurt currently supplies chicory to the whole of Switzerland. The successful company history began in 1977. After taking over the lease of his parents' agricultural business, Erwin Gamper began to grow storable and canned vegetables.

By 1979, chicory was already being grown on ten hectares, which corresponds to a yield of around 130 tonnes. Over the years, the company also had to struggle through difficult phases. But giving up was never an option. A larger company has developed, which today employs around 120 people in summer and around 80 in winter.

"With the current harvest we are a little later than usual", Mr. Gamper tells the Tagblatt. "The reason being the wet autumn. The roots arrive with a lot of soil on them, which makes further processing difficult."
