For the second year, Anteus offers red kuri squash from Morocco to its German, French, Swiss and Austrian clients for the winter season. “We grow in the Rabat region, in northern Morocco, where the climate is favorable for the crops. Besides, the land has been spared from intensive agriculture, which allows us to produce healthy red kuri squash of good quality. Last year, we obtained nearly 100 tons. In a context where demand has been growing for two or three years, we decided to increase our production areas to 20 hectares this year. With a productivity of 25 tons per hectare, we are expecting 500 tons for this season,” explains Patrick Brun, manager of Anteus France.
Unlike last year, the calendar is looking ideal for this campaign. “The beginning of the red kuri squash season in Morocco will coincide with the end of the German season. The first red kuri squash will be harvested around January 10th, and should arrive between January 15th and 20th on the European market. The Moroccan season will last approximately three months.”
“I am sure that we will have a very nice season. The cultivation went very well and it looks like the quality will be there,” explains Patrick. “Besides, very few operators work red kuri squash in Morocco, because they are not a very cultural product. But the quality is equivalent to the European production.”
