Chinese New Year influences vegetables prices

"This month carrot prices will further increase"

The carrot market has been changing in recent weeks. As some vegetable prices went up lately, carrot prices are also on the move. Mr. J.S. from Jining Shangzhuo Food Co., Ltd. explained the current conditions: “Compared with last month, the carrot price has increased by about 50 dollars per ton. Chinese New Year is the peak season for our sales. Due to the strong demand during this period, prices are under increasing pressure as Chinese New Year approaches. Therefore, I expect prices to rise further in the coming month.”

Even though Mr. J.S. maintains a good position in the market, he mentioned that fierce competition is still present. “We have a lot of competition from the Chinese domestic market, especially other suppliers that also export. At the same time, there are also some foreign companies that influence our market. However, in the coming months, the demand for carrots will remain high, so unless there is fierce competition we can maintain a good price.”

Jining Shangzhuo Food Co., Ltd. is located in Shandong and was established in 2008. Their planting area this year for carrots consisted of 100 hectares and they have established some partnerships with local farmers to increase the yields. “We mainly export to the Middle East market. At present the export volume is normal and there is no significant decrease compared with last year.”

“Besides carrots, we also sell Chinese peeled garlic, peeled onions, ginger and pomelo all year round. We hope to find new buyers in Europe for our ginger and onions and to build good partnerships.”
