"Meager supply of hand-washed Brussels Sprouts is pushing up prices"

Winter vegetable season is currently in full swing. Gemex sells many winter vegetables during this time of year. This company is based in Genk, Belgium. “Brussel Sprouts are very popular at the moment," says Sven Jordens of Gemex.

"Unfortunately, there are too few hand-washed Brussels Sprouts available on the market. This meager supply means prices are at around €1,90/kg. That is quite expensive for this time of year."

“Strawberries are also still selling well. Especially on the German Christmas markets. Prices are at around €3, but we are running into increasing difficulties thanks to import strawberries," says Sven. “Leeks are selling as normal for this time of year. Supply and demand are well balanced. With a price of €0,43/kg, this situation is normal for this time of year."

The Belgian greenhouse vegetable season is almost completely over at this export company, except for tomatoes. "The lit-cultivation Elite tomatoes are selling very well at the moment. They have a very nice red color, thanks to the lighting."

"It is a perfect product for the festive season. Lettuce heads will also be extremely popular during the holidays. The lettuce supply is expected to increase next week," concludes Jordens.
