The 18th China Greenhouse & Horticulture Industry Conference took place on November 13th, 2019, in Guiyang City. This conference attracted more than 700 participants from horticultural companies, research institutions, and government departments across the globe. It is worth noting that this year for the first time the convention also attracted a number of entrepreneurs and investors with an interest in modern agricultural technology and agricultural facilities.
According to manager Wang Hui, one of the conference organizers, "This is the 18th time we organize this conference. Looking at the trends in the last few years we can say that our horticultural industry is developing towards sustainability, efficiency, and accuracy. This industry has always been a leading example of Chinese agriculture and is now gradually adjusting to the market economy. Farmers express a demand for technology that becomes more and more concrete. Company services are also increasingly specialized. Under these circumstances it is not surprising that the services of technology suppliers are changing from the delivery of single products to the supply of comprehensive, integrated solutions."
Manager Wang continued, "In recent years we have seen a growing number of Chinese horticultural companies bring in advanced technology from the Netherlands, Israel, Japan, Korea, and France. During the conference, for example, there were more than 10 Dutch companies present. These companies offer services for the horticultural industry that include greenhouse design, automated installations, plantation resources, knowledge centers, and training. This is also a clear indication that foreign companies think highly of the potential for development in the Chinese horticultural industry. However, many Chinese companies simply adopt foreign technology that has not been through a process of localization. The results of this approach are not clear. We hope to adjust foreign technology to meet the specific local requirements in China. We prefer not to copy wholesale, but to implement technology based on local conditions."
When asked about the international impact of Chinese horticultural companies, manager Wang answered, "domestic companies have been through nearly 10 years of development and their level of technology continues to improve. Companies are eager to move abroad and sell abroad. Some Chinese companies already receive large orders from overseas. The main export markets are in Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. Most of the projects involve the construction of greenhouses and complementary products."
