On December 9, the Official Bulletin of the Canary Islands (BOC) published the order by which new aid is assigned to banana producers for the biennium 2019-2020, in accordance with the provisions of Decree 143 / 2009, of November 17.
Thus, the Council of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Association of Organizations of Banana Producers of the Canary Islands (Asprocan) have agreed to readjust the aid and compensations granted to banana producers in accordance with the provisions of the Program for Community Support to the Agricultural Productions of the Canary Islands.
The subsidy corresponding to fiscal year 2019, which is paid in December 2019 and June 2020, will be made based on the reference amount. In the event that the total sum of the reference quantities in a given year, including those in the reserve, exceeds 420,000 tons, the appropriate reduction coefficient will be applied.
The Council's team and Asprocan technicians recently held a meeting to agree on the reference amounts. Once these were set, several technical options were proposed to the Asprocan management team, which unanimously chose the option that best suited the interests of the sector.
