Half the crops could be lost

Flooding puts Kenyan herb season in danger

The Kenyan herbs are in a bit of trouble. Due to heavy rains and cold conditions, a lot of the crops could be lost. According to one Kenyan exporter, the situation will last for a while as more rain and cloudy weather is expected.

According to Evergreen Crops general manager Mr Arun Singh the situation for Kenyan herbs is looking grim. “Yes, the herbs are in a bit of a pickle. Most of the Kenyan herb harvest is affected by the extreme weather and have been flooded. This could have significant impact for a lot of growers. If I would have to estimate the losses, I would say about half of the harvest will be lost. The outlook is that there will be more rain and farmers will have to endure cold conditions for some time to come.”
