Nearly 90% is destined for the Chinese market

Chilean cherry export volume sets new record

The Cherry Committee of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association opened the wholesale cherry season 2019/20 in the Guangzhou Jiangnonghui Wholesale Market on December 7th, 2019. Charif Christian Carvajal, Head of the Asian Market at the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association, stated that the export volume of Chilean cherries is expected to set a new record this season. The export volume is expected to reach 210 thousand tons this season, while the export volume last season only reached 180 thousand tons. Nearly 90% of the Chilean cherry export volume is destined for the Chinese market.

The first Chilean cherries of the season reached China in the middle of October via air freight. The arrival of cherries by sea signals the start of a growth in supply volume prior to Chinese Spring Festival [25 January, 2020]. Chinese consumers can still enjoy Chilean cherries in late February when the season is coming to an end.
