Andalusian agro-exports between January and September 2019 achieved a new record, reaching 8,469 million Euro in terms of value; the best figure since there are approved records (1995), according to data from Extenda-Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion. This figure represents a growth of 4.8% over the same period of the previous year.
With this record, Andalusia remains the leading region when it comes to Spanish exports of agricultural products and beverages, accounting for almost one out of every four Euro of domestic sales between January and September (36,848 million), ahead of Catalonia (21.1%) and the Region of Valencia (12%).
More than 3,000 exporting companies
Andalusian agro-food companies are the ones responsible for these figures. A total of 3,212 exporters have already made shipments this year, which entails a growth of 5.2% over the same period of 2018. Of these, 1,702 are regular exporters (more than four consecutive years exporting), with a year-on-year growth of 2.6%.
Andalusia's most exported agro-food products in this period are vegetables, with 2,181 million, 25.7% of the total and a year-on-year growth of 12.3%; followed by fruits, with 2,048 million, 24.2% and an increase of 4.5%; and olive oil, with 1,831 million and 21.6% of the total. In fourth place we find fruit and vegetable preserves, with 596 million, 7% of the total and an 8.8% rise.
The majority of sales correspond to three provinces: Seville, Almeria and Huelva, with almost two thirds of exports (64%). In the lead is Almeria, with 2,201 million, 26% of the total and 9.4% growth; followed by Seville, with 1,983 million and 23.4%; and Huelva, with 1,249 million, 14.7% of the total and an increase of 3.3%.
Next we have Malaga, with 895 million, 10.6% of the total and 18.3% growth (the highest achieved by any province); Córdoba, with 732 million and 8.6% of the total; Cádiz, with 618 million (7.3%) and a 3.7% rise; Granada, with 569 million (6.7%) and 10% growth; and Jaén, with 221 million (2.6%) and a 15.1% rise.
China, Italy and the US: the fastest growing markets
The EU is the main Andalusian agricultural market, with Germany at the top with 1,381 million in sales, 16.3% of the total and a 6% increase. The next places in the ranking are for France, with 1,103 million, 13% of the total and a 1.5% increase; Italy, with 995 million, 11.7% of the total and 17% growth; the United Kingdom, with 783 million and 9.2% of the total; and the Netherlands, with 576 million, 6.8% of the total and a 9.2% rise.
However, the highest growth observed in this period in any of the top ten markets has been achieved in China (the 10th largest market), where sales have increased by 67%, reaching a value of 176 million Euro. Great progress has also been recorded in the United States (7th largest market), where the value of exports has increased by 13.5% to 565 million Euro; the Philippines (13th market), up by 17.3% to 94 million; and Canada (18th market), where the value of exports has grown by 19.1% to 64 million Euro.
