Kenneth Meyer, Natural Tropic:

"Avocado market somewhat under pressure but Spain must peak later in the season"

Sales of Spanish Hass avocados are currently a bit more laborious. "We see many avocados appearing all at once from multiple origins on the market. In addition to Spain, avocados from Chile, Israel, Colombia and Mexico are also available. This has put the price under pressure in one go," says Kenneth Meyer of cultivation company, Natural Tropic of Malaga.

"We came from a level between 18 to 20 euros for the thicker sizes, but now prices are 15 to 16 euros and here and there they are offered at even lower prices," notes Kennet. However, the Dutch sales manager is not worried. "Spain had a difficult start last year as well, when the sale started in February, but we were free from the avocados due to an empty market, so we're not worried about that, especially if you have well-protected fields. You just have to be patient. "

"Although the organic Hass avocados have fallen somewhat in price, the demand remains fairly stable. I therefore see that the market will remain stable. Traditionally, towards Christmas and New Year the demand for avocados, usually increasing again after which it gets a bit quieter in January ", says Kenneth. "The market for Greenskin avocados has been good due to the good demand in Europe."
The largest volumes have since disappeared. There is still some Fuerte variety available, but the season for Bacon is almost over. "

Kumquats

From week 50, the season of Kumquats starts at Natural Tropic. In the past, we have been trading in crates, now with multiple pallets at the same time, we are getting our own cultivation of kumquats, both conventional and organic, with the cherimoyas in the middle of the season, we have become a real player within a few years and sales are reasonably good this year and prices are likely to rise again around Christmas, "concludes Kenneth.
