Robert Morris of Galilee Export:

“Our advantage is that our DNA is grower-driven”

The Dutch bell pepper season has come to an end but the Spanish and Israeli seasons are still going along at full speed. Robert Morris of Israel-based Galilee Export says: “We are seeing high volumes coming out of Israel every week. Even though the Spanish season is in full swing as well, we have been able to find the right markets to sell our products and maximize returns for our growers – which is always one of our top priorities."

"Our biggest market for peppers is Russia and we are sending good volumes there right now. During this time of the year, the United States is also an important market for us. We send the product there by sea and air and especially around Thanksgiving the demand increases a lot. Besides these two big markets we also send to other European countries”

Peppers from the start
The company have been exporting peppers since the day they begun, which was eight years ago. Robert says: “During the early years of the company, peppers were a relatively small product for us, but every year we are seeing more and more growth. The number of growers we work with increases each year and we are now one of the largest Israeli exporters for peppers.”

Quality control.

“The pepper market isn’t always great and there are many fluctuations, but the with the right marketing structure, combined with a good sales team, good growers and packhouses, it is still a profitable business to be in. We see that peppers from the Israeli origin are still very popular – especially in Russia, where we sell large quantities to supermarket chains and wholesale markets,” he adds.

Focus on the growers
The company puts great focus on their growers and ensuring that they are in the best position they can be. “We offer a wide variety of products to our customers worldwide and this is really an advantage for our growers. We emphasize quality to ensure that the customers receive the best possible product. Everything that we do is done to maximize the growers’ results and income. Our success lies in the fact that we are a cooperative owned by growers, so our DNA is grower-driven,” Robert concludes.
