"Import pineapples barely offer any competition to our Chinese pineapples"

Pineapples are an important product in the Chinese market. In addition to the domestic production of pineapples, there is also a large volume of imported pineapples available in the Chinese market. However, there is barely any competition between imported pineapples and domestic pineapples in China.

Mr. Wu of Hainan Tiandiren Ecological Management (Group) Co., Ltd. recently talked about the pineapple industry in China: "Imported pineapples barely offer any competition to our Chinese pineapples. First, the pineapple varieties imported to the Chinese market are not the same as the pineapple varieties we produce in Hainan. Furthermore, many Chinese consumers are very familiar with our Chinese pineapple brands. However, Chinese consumers are not too familiar with most foreign pineapple brands. We started selling our pineapples in November last year and the sales volume up until now has been excellent. The market demand for our pineapples is great."

"We are working hard to expand our Chinese market share. We are therefore not single-mindedly targeting markets in first-tier cities alone, but we also expand our market activities in second- and third-tier cities such as Xi'an, Qingtai, and Liaoling. There is still much room for development in markets like that. This year our share of the Chinese pineapple market increased from 28% to 37%. We also added 8 new wholesale markets to our list of sales locations. In addition to wholesale markets, we also sell our pineapples in stores and online."

"As for the price of our pineapples, we expect the price to rise in the next few months. The current price is around 130 yuan [18.49 USD] per box. The price of our pineapples is higher than the price of other pineapples in the Chinese market. We have a very strong brand. We guarantee consumers high product quality and swift delivery, which is the reason why we receive praise from consumers. Some of the imported pineapples from lesser-known brands sell for around 50-80 yuan [7.11-11.38 USD] per box. These pineapples are much cheaper. We are quite proud of the stable brands that are established in the Chinese market. We hope that this trend will grow even stronger in the future."

Mr. Wu Qicong, the vice-chairman of Hainan Tiandiren, received the title of "2019 Outstanding Newcomer in the Chinese Fruit Industry" during the recently concluded "2019 Chinese Fruit Brand Exposition". Mr. Wu was selected from among a large number of newcomers in the fruit industry. "You only have to concentrate all your attention on doing one thing right and you will succeed in the end. I chose agriculture and focused all my attention on being the best newcomer in the agricultural industry."

In addition to fresh pineapples, Tiandiren Farm also sells processed fruit products. "Our main client group consists of women between 25 and 35 years old. They account for about 70% of our sales volume. In order to better serve our main client group, we have decided to develop several new products, such as pineapple tea, lipstick with pineapple flavor, and clothing made from pineapple leaves. We hope to develop and promote even more processed pineapple products in the future. In addition, we have designed various packaging methods for our fresh pineapple products. The packaging appeals to different client groups. This year we introduced red packaging."
