It is a positive moment for Veneto radicchio market, a product that offers different types suited to different consumer tastes. One of the leading companies in the sector is the Geofur of Legnago (Verona), which deal with all types of Venetian radicchio.
"The demand is lively and the prices are as expected - says the manager Cristiana Furiani - even though until a few days ago the request was even better. Lungo, Variegato, Tardivo and Verona radicchio have an excellent quality and, since the product available is not abundant, there is a continuous sale without any waste. The Tondo, instead, is struggling a bit more, because the rains of the past few days have penalized it".
The weather has caused some problems, so much so that warehouse waste is on the rise: a precaution to ensure that the consumer receives a high quality product anyway.
"There is also a lot of attention for the IGP-branded Radicchio di Verona - concludes Cristiana - thanks to the work that the protection Consortium has been carrying out for some years now. Appearances on mainstream and specialized media have been helpful as well."
Overall, the demand is lively on the part of large-scale distribution chains, and this makes it possible to collect, package and ship in a very short time, preserving all the product's organoleptic characteristics. And, more importantly, to get an acceptable price.
