A Boeing 777 of China Cargo Airlines recently landed at Ningbo Lishe International Airport with a cargo hold full of fresh fruit. This was the first time a chartered flight has carried Chilean cherries harvested specifically for direct transport to Ningbo. The cherries were carefully selected and packaged to guarantee that they were as brightly colored and fresh as possible. The cherries traveled from the orchard to the airport in refrigerated trucks to maintain product quality.
The entire journey from the orchards in Chile to Ningbo lasted 72 hours. This short turnover truly deserves the label "from orchard to table". The chartered flight allowed Chinese consumers in Ningbo to enjoy fresh Chilean cherries.
China is the largest trade partner of Chile. The trade between the two countries accounted for 30% of Chile's foreign trade. Chile recognizes the strategic position of Ningbo and hopes trade cooperation will grow more stronger in the future. Chile is one of the larger countries in South America and has a rich variety of fruits, but the country is remote. Fruit from Chile usually travels to China by sea. When Chilean fruit is air freighted, the cargo is usually transferred from one plane to another. This has a negative effect on the freshness of the fruit.
