“This year, thanks to the stable weather throughout the year, many onion production areas in China have ushered in a bumper harvest. At the same time, rainy weather has led to a significantly lower production in India, bringing export opportunities for Chinese onions during the second half of 2019 and export prices soared,” Mr. Bai of Dalian Nongchang International Trading Co., Ltd. said.
“As mentioned above, due to lower production in India, Chinese onions have found additional export outlets this year, especially the export demand for small-sized onions is still going strong. In terms of export destinations, Chinese onions are mainly exported to Southeast Asia countries and Bangladesh. Comparatively, exports to Europe are smaller, mainly due to the fact that production in the main production countries such as the Netherlands has returned to normal this season, leading to moderate export prices. ”
“In terms of regional preferences, the supply and demand of red and yellow onions are basically the same in China's local market, while people in Southeast Asian countries prefer red onions. In addition, China’s red onion production this year is small, so prices are very high. Currently, the FOB price of yellow onion exports is about 400 US dollars per ton. Prices of red onions are changing rapidly due to scarce supply.”
“Our onions are from Gansu and are mainly exported to Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. We offer yellow onions of sizes ranging from 5-7, 6-8, and 9-11 cm in diameter.”
