Unique mountain apples La Grande Bellezza Italiana

La Grande Bellezza Italiana apples are a mountain variety that manages to reach high quality level thanks to the unique environment they are grown in. They are produced and packaged in the Cuneo province and destined all over Italy.

Alex Tallone and Alessio Chiabrando

"We choose the top of the range of a product that is already of the best quality - PGI red apples from Cuneo. This year, in particular, fruits benefited from the great temperature range and therefore have an amazing red color," explains Alessio Chiabrando, from the Joinfruit sales office."

The snowy Monviso in the background

FreshPlaza visited the Sanifrutta facility (in Costigliole Saluzzo, Cuneo) on November 15th 2019. "Our orchards are mainly located at 400-800 meters asl. We process the various varieties in a single hyper-specialized facility," added technician Alex Tallone.

The snowfall of November 15th 2019

Snow fell while Crimson Snow apples were still on the trees. The orchards covered in snow with the Monviso in the background and the Alps all around created a calling card that has nothing to envy to the many products available on the market.

"The strong-points of this product are its crunchiness, sugar level at the minimum required and appealing packaging."

"Crates are available as 40x60 and 30x50 and the dominating black color contrasts against the bright red of the apples. Boxes with 4 fruits have a window to display the product and are also an excellent present. The QR code links with the website, so consumers can learn more about La Grande Bellezza Italiana".

The purpose of opting for uniform packaging is clear: transmitting an unambiguous message to consumers that is clear and uniform in a world, such as the fresh produce one, that is often fragmented and dominated by confusion.

Processing phase at Sanifrutta

"To obtain the best fruit available, we select the best producers located in the best areas. This year, apples are even crunchier than usual and that is why they are particularly appreciated."

The fruit is harvested at the perfect ripening level, meaning there are between two and four operations depending on the variety. The produce is then pre-graded and processed.

Sanifrutta's cultivars are: Royal Gala (including new variety clones), Red Delicious and Granny Smith followed by the Fuji group and Golden Delicious. Gala, Red Delicious and Fuji groups are part of the "Mela Rossa Cuneo IGP" mark.
