Spanish entrepreneur on trial for scamming €180,000 worth of oranges out of 24 producers

The Valencian entrepreneur Vicente Chaveli was on trial on Thursday, November 14, at the Provincial Court of Valencia, after being accused of scamming 24 producers in the regions of La Ribera and La Safor out of more than 183,000 Euro in oranges in the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 campaigns. At that time, this entrepreneur, sole administrator of the Chaveli Fruits SL company, stopped paying debts that ranged between 500 and 19,000 Euro, as the court found during the investigation stage.

The provincial Prosecutor's Office of Valencia has requested penalties adding up to five years in prison for an alleged crime of continued fraud and another of punishable insolvency, as well as the reimbursement of the money that he earned out of orange batches from the towns of Tavernes de la Valldigna, Albalat de la Ribera, Xeraco, Montesa, Alberic or Benifaió.
