Ranking list shows the most harvested crops between 1961-2017

How do the yields of the most harvested crops worldwide differ from each other over the years? In the video below, Data for Farmers shows which crops from 1961 to 2017 alternated on the world ranking in terms of tons harvested in this period.

 

Top 5
The most harvested crop in the world is pre-eminently sugar cane. Compared to the early 1960's, total production has quadrupled. Most imports come from production countries such as Brazil, India, China and Thailand. From the beginning of the 21st century, corn (maize) landed in second place in the ranking. At present, corn production is five times higher as in the early 60's. Wheat, rice and potatoes complete the top 5.
