Sicilian habanero is already a trend among customers and in the foodservice sector

"We started out as a small family-owned business in 2012 in Vittoria (Ragusa), the heart of Sicily's horticultural production and, in a few years, we have become a role model in the vegetable industry. We are constantly growing, and we ended last season with 3,000 tons of packaged horticultural products.”, says Giusy Cavallaro, commercial manager of Red Fruit, a company that produces and sells fruit and vegetable references.

"Over the years we specialized in the production of cherry tomatoes (350 tons) and date tomatoes (70 tons) of superior quality - continues Cavallaro - obtaining an ever-growing appreciation from our business partners. Our vibrant and dynamic entrepreneurial approach is the driving force behind our ongoing research in the field of varietal diversification".

At the heart of our activities - reveals the sales manager - is the experimentation of new interesting crops to be proposed to the industry. These include the habanero sweet and hot chilli varieties (orange, chocolate and red Carribean varieties). Our production of these chilies, among the hottest in the world according to the Scoville scale, totals over 10 tons. The demand for these exotic products is growing, because their consumption is already a trend among the final retail customers and in the foodservice sector. We have invested in these and other references, building new greenhouses dedicated to crops on substrate.

The company owns 4 production hectares, but it also relies on trusted suppliers, whose cultivations are supervised by Red Fruit experts. The processing and packaging warehouse measures 1300 square meters and contains large storage cells to ensure maximum care of the products.

"In addition to our products, we add those of our associated suppliers", explains the expert. These products are always and only chosen and selected from the sowing phase, in compliance with the quality standards required by our customers to whom we guarantee an uninterrupted production 12 months a year".

"By ensuring the freshness of our products," - she continues - "we have always been able to meet all the required procedures, resources and technologies needed to ensure a punctual and precise service. For this reason, all shipments are done with vehicles at a monitored temperature and in compliance with all transportation regulations and hygienic standards on products. Our customers are located in the main wholesale markets of Northern Italy, such as Verona, Milan and Padua. At the market centre of this last city, we have grown, we are particularly fond of the relationship established with our customer company Ortopadova Srl".

Red Fruit not only operates within a framework of regulations, but also holds all the certifications a modern company requires on the market. Management and procedures are regulated and certified by GlobalGAP, GRASP and IFS, in order to ensure a finished product through a monitored supply chain, with an eye towards providing Italian and foreign large-scale markets.
