Richard Strijbis, Tovano:

"With new line of dried fruit from South Africa, wholesaler and specialty stores can distinguish themselves"

Nuts, dates, figs, pine nuts, sun-dried tomatoes. If you take a look at the warehouse at Tovano in Maasdijk, you will see a wide range of nuts and dehydrated fruits. Within this last category, a new line from South Africa is gaining importance. Starting with dried mango and  pineapples, dried apple, peach and banana have now been added to the assortment.

"Without added sugars," emphasise director Richard Strijbis. "There is quite a bit of fruit on the market where sugars has been added. That is surely deliciously sweet, but those are real sugar bombs. This dehydrated fruit from South Africa only has its own natural sugars. In addition, the quality is exceptional and the typically South African presentation really makes this an unique product. "

Dehydrated pineapple

"We see a sharp increase in the demand for these dehydrated products. Mangoes are the prime mover, but the demand for the other products is also good, mainly from customers in the fruit and vegetable sector. Specialised stores can stand out with this type of products and also wholesalers and exporters can offer something extra and different to their customers. Although it costs a little more, the product is unique, "says Richard.

Apple and peach

"These products are ideal as a healthy snack, easy to carry. In addition, they can be used in mixed drinks, smoothies and yogurt. They are full of vitamins and flavour, so they fit in well with the trend of healthy products," says Richard with enthusiasm.

Mango and banana

On 11 November the first load of Diamond in-shell walnuts, will arrive in the port of Rotterdam.
