Sophie Ye, KX Food

"High ginger prices not expected to fall before end of December"

“The demand for ginger has spiked in the last four weeks or so," says Sophie Ye of the Belgian importer, KX Food. "This rise in demand has pushed prices up. The current market is, however, quite healthy. As things stand, the situation will remain as is until the end of December."

Peruvian turmeric

A few months ago, KX Food announced that they would also start importing ginger from Brazil and Peru. This is in addition to the Chinese ginger they have already. "There is an excellent demand for ginger at the moment," says Sophie.

"There is a good demand for Chinese ginger. The Brazilian ginger is also selling well. Actually even better than the ginger from Peru." This importer is currently very satisfied with this product's quality too. "All the ginger we are getting in at the moment is of great quality."

Purple sweet potatoes

KX Food not only imports ginger. They also bring in other products. These include sweet potatoes, turmeric, and sweet chestnuts. “We have various kinds of sweet potatoes in our assortment. Sales are going smoothly, and demand keeps rising."

"The turmeric is moving a little slower. But we believe this product is going to get going soon. This is because of the healthy foods trend. We have also received the first sweet chestnuts of the season again. We are very happy with their quality," concludes Sophie.
