Market Report Austria CW 44/2019:

'Regional potatoes in the foreground, carrot harvest is progressing rapidly'

The situation on the Austrian potato market shows little change - The harvest is now completed in Lower Austria and also in the other federal states. The marketers' stocks are well filled, with goods still being supplied by the farmers. There are indeed some quality problems this year, due to disease and pest infestation, but to a much lesser extent than in the previous year.

The marketing of Lower Austrian potatoes is currently very quiet. In Germany, retailers attach greater importance to locally produced products, which is why potatoes from Lower Austria are less in demand outside this state. In the export, the demand is growing, but currently the prices are still a problem. Producer prices have not changed this week. In Lower Austria, at the beginning of the week, a price range of 22 euros / 100 kg to 28 euros / 100 kg was mentioned. From Upper Austria prices of up to 28 Euro / 100 kg were reported.

Quiet demand for onions
The Austrian onion market starts balanced in the November. A good enough supply meets a quiet domestic demand. At the end of the month, domestic sales should pick up again slowly. The export also lacks impulses. The prices showed no change. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box, of the appropriate quality and size, between 23 and 28 Euro / 100 kg is being paid.

Carrot harvest is progressing rapidly
The Lower Austrian Carrot Market continues to be stable. With cooler daytime temperatures, the harvesting work for the storage process is progressing rapidly. As the harvest progresses, the predicted average harvest quantity is confirmed more and more. However, this year's net yield is likely to be lower than originally expected due to heavy mouse bites. Regarding producer prices, there is no change compared to last week.
