Beijing Xinfadi Market Analysis:

Vegetable prices rise as season changes

Vegetable prices in the Xinfadi Market recently increased. People in the industry explained that this is a seasonal fluctuation. Around this time last year, several vegetable production areas in north and east China flooded as the result of extreme weather conditions such as typhoons. Farmers had to replant vegetables and this delayed market supply. Vegetables that were supposed to enter the market in late September and early October only entered the market in late October. The price rapidly increased as a result and only came down in late October when the supply expanded.

The temperatures in north China have been low, as was the case in previous years. Vegetable production areas are in the middle of changing seasons. The production of vegetables significantly slowed down. The cost price of vegetables from glasshouse production and south Chinese production areas is high and the market price subsequently grows higher.

The production areas are changing from autumn production to winter production. This change generally takes about one month. However, news shows that the change from glasshouse production to greenhouse production, and the shift from north Chinese production areas to south Chinese production areas will be over in half a month.

The production volume of vegetables in south China is as large as in previous years, and the production facilities in north Chinese production areas are better than last year. The change from autumn production to winter production is therefore smoother than usual.
