"Wholesale market in Pingxiang, China, to facilitate trade with ASEAN countries"

The Pingxiang Jiangnan (ASEAN) Agricultural Products Import and Export Trading Market, officially opened its doors in September 2019. In terms of logistics and the circulation of information, the wholesale market has been well fitted for China's “One Belt, One Road” initiative by strengthening Pingxiang's role as an international logistics hub to facilitate the fruit trade between China and ASEAN countries.

The wholesale market integrates trading, warehousing, cold chain, custom clearance, offline wholesale, and online trading, and distributes fruit exported from ASEAN countries by land across China. “There are currently about 500 traders stationed in the market, who are mainly importers and residents of the border areas. Currently, the largest import item in the market is green mango from Vietnam, which accounts for more than 90% of the country's total mango exports,” Poyee, Chief Operating Officer of FreshJN said.

“The market is able to add to the whole industry due to its advantageous location. Located on the border between China and Vietnam, Pingxiang is the largest and most convenient land transport hub in Southeast Asia. Currently, 60-70% of the imported goods from Asia marketed in the Jiangnan and Jiaxing markets are distributed from Pingxiang, which shows the huge development potential of the market. Secondly, with the improvement of infrastructure and transportation in China's border areas, we believed that it was high time to set up a wholesale market in Pingxiang,” Poyee said.

Operating as a physical wholesale market, Pingxiang Market also focuses on its e-commerce platform. When it comes to the advantages of the platform, Poyee said, “From the customers’ point of view, first of all, online sales reduce the links involved in distribution, which ensures the transparency and product quality on top of reducing costs. Secondly, e-commerce platforms provide one-stop services for buyers and provide them with more choices with a variety of fruits. Now we have more than 2,000 SKUs of products online per day. In addition, the intensive trading model reduces distribution costs and increases delivery speed. Usually, the customer can receive the goods by the next day after placing an order."

“We hope that this model, combining online and offline operations, will bring more convenience to traders who distribute fruit through the Pingxiang market, thus further promoting bilateral trade.”
