USDA announces appointment of six new members for Hass Avocado Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the appointment of six individuals to serve three-year terms on the Hass Avocado Board. The appointees will serve from Nov. 1, 2019, to Oct. 31, 2022.

Members and alternates newly appointed to serve are:

Bob Schaar, Fallbrook, Calif. (Producer Member)
Salvador Luis Dominguez, Santa Paula, Calif. (Producer Member)
Jim Swoboda, Goleta, Calif. (Producer Alternate)
John Cornell, Everett, Wash. (Producer Alternate)
Jacqueline Solares, Temecula, Calif. (Importer Alternate)
James Donovan, Ventura, Calif. (Importer Member)
The Hass Avocado Board has 12 members, which include seven producer members, two importer members and three producer or importer members who serve in swing seats. Each member has an alternate.

Since 1966, Congress has authorized industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) provides oversight to 21 boards. The oversight ensures fiscal accountability and program integrity, and is paid for by industry assessments.
