Market Report Austria KW 43/2019:

"Balanced table potato market, intensified onion exports"

The Austrian 2019 potato harvest is practically completed. The last remaining fields are likely to be cleared this week. The traders' warehouses are well-stocked, despite the below-average harvest volumes.

There are no new impulses on the sales side. Domestic demand continues to be manageable through promotional sales. Regarding export; there are currently hardly any marketing opportunities given the favorable offer of European competitors. Producer prices can hold up well on the previous week's level. Pricing is expected to barely change over the next few weeks. In Lower Austria, a price range of 22 to 28 Euro / 100 kg was mentioned at the beginning of the week. From Upper Austria, prices of up to 28 Euro / 100 kg were reported.

Onions exported more often
The onion marketing in Lower Austria continues to be calm, as it was in the previous weeks. Domestically, the sales after the fall promotions have quieted down again. Export activities are slowly becoming stronger. The prices remain unchanged and the mood was positive. For onions of the appropriate quality and size, cleaned and sorted in the box, between 23 and 28 Euro / 100 was usually being paid.

Stable carrot market
In Lower Austria, the marketing of carrots continues unabashedly. Producer prices remain stable at the level of the previous week. Despite high outside temperatures, the harvesting work continues, for storage. The yields are average, but the net yield is reduced this year due to heavy mice contamination.
