The last week of October and the first week of November are known in China as 'Frost Descends'. This is when the temperatures drop. And if the weather is bad, the kiwi fruit market is even worse. The weather conditions were not great this year. Some farmers harvested during the rain just to sell their kiwi fruit as quickly as possible. Kiwi fruit that is harvested in the rain is difficult to store for a long period of time.
Data from pfsc.agri.cn shows that the purchase price of kiwi fruit in Shaanxi is around 2.7 yuan [0.38 USD] per 0.5 kg. The purchase price of kiwi fruit in the beginning of this season was around 6 yuan [0.85 USD] per 0.5 kg, and to have the price drop to almost 2 yuan [0.28 USD] per 0.5 kg is alarming. In some production areas the price even dropped as low as 1.5 yuan [0.21 USD] per 0.5 kg.
