EcoEspaña (the Sustainable Organic Production Association of Spain), is the new national organization for Spanish organic producers, created to offer them extensive opportunities for training, advice, promotion and the defense of the organic agricultural sector. It will be based in Almeria.
The project has been led by the agro-food certification company Agrocolor and has been backed by Cajamar, Coexphal, Agro-food Cooperatives of Granada, Agro-food Cooperatives of Seville, the Federation of Rice Growers of Seville and Freshuelva.
EcoEspaña's services will mostly be oriented towards greenhouse-grown fruits and vegetables, as well as the sorting, packaging, processing and marketing industries.
The association will be officially presented on October 22 at Fruit Attraction, in a 128 m² stand at Hall 6, Stand D02. Francisco Belmonte, top executive of Biosabor, will be present at the event.
Over the last 20 years, the acreage devoted to organic food production worldwide has multiplied by 7, reaching 70 million hectares in 2017 and over 90,000 million Euro worth of products marketed. Europe accounts for almost 40% of the value of the global production, and Spain has the second largest area devoted to organic farming in Europe, with over 2 million hectares.
All organic producers audited by Agrocolor may become associates and benefit from the multiple services that EcoEspaña will provide to facilitate the implementation and development of organic production.
