Demand for Italian pomegranates peaks between Christmas and February

"The Wonderful One pomegranate campaign is starting. Harvesting began last week and will end in late October. At the moment, quality is excellent but quantities are low. Our fruits have large grades and a deep red color," explains Giacomo Galdiero, CEO of Aop Luce.

"Blossoming was slightly late this year, but did not compromise orchard productivity. We expect volumes to be normal for plants that are between 2 and 5 years old. Last year, we registered a 30% production drop but believe in the potential of this fruit."

"Our main destination markets are the domestic big retail chains, while a small quantity is exported overseas. Demand is lively and consumers appreciate the fruit both fresh and as an ornament. Interest usually peaks between the Christmas holidays and February."

"We employ rather expensive state-of-the-art growing techniques  such as Y spreading. We are also testing new techniques to keep management costs down while maximizing quality."

"When it comes to packaging, we place the product in cardboard crates that can hold up to 9-10 fruits."
