France: “Old vegetables are making a strong comeback”

André Rosello and his brothers Jean Sébastien and Nicolas are fruit and vegetable wholesalers in Arras, France. The family business Rosello & fils will soon celebrate its 100 years of existence. According to André, old vegetables are making a strong comeback. Why? “Homemade soups are very much in fashion. Consumers love making pumpkin, zucchini or squash soups.”

Two giant pumpkins
The pumpkin market is quite good. “There is nothing in particular. Like every year, the market will strongly increase until Halloween, which is also very popular.” Rosello & fils has been working with the same regional pumpkin producers for 40 years. “This year, one of our producers got two giant pumpkins. He didn’t know what to do with them. We bought them and offered them to two of our Leclerc clients who use them as decoration. The stores even organized a game to guess their weight. Whoever discovers the weight of the pumpkin gets to take it home.”

Rosello & fils is a full-time wholesaler. The company delivers to clients throughout the Hauts de France region, using its own trucks. The family has been working with local products for many years, offering a very wide range. “We have all ranges and packagings. We work, for example, with apples in bulk for the catering sector, apples in trays for supermarkets, as well as more delicious varieties for the specialists.”
