Market Report Austria KW 42/2019:

'Potato harvest almost completed, quiet onion market'

Stable conditions are currently shaping the Austrian table potato market. The harvest work is completed except for some remaining areas and the offers from the farmers has already decreased noticeably as well. Farmers' willingness to ship their goods was high this year, due to the relatively high domestic price level. The warehouses are well filled.

Domestic sales are quiet. Consumers seem to be well stocked with goods. There was no change in the producer prices. In Lower Austria, at the beginning of the week, a price range of €22-28 euros per 100 kg was mentioned. In Upper Austria, prices of up to €28 Euro per 100 kg were reported.

Behaviour on onion market
Through the autumnal retail onion campaigns, the lots with a low storage life will be used up. There is a positive price trend for high quality goods now, which is not yet manifested in the prices. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box -of the appropriate quality and sizes- between € 23 and 28 per 100 kg is usually paid.

Carrot market remains calm
The ongoing marketing of Lower Austrian carrots continues to run smoothly and without changes. The harvest for warehouse goods in Lower Austria is slowly gaining momentum. However, the weather is still too warm. Producer prices are stable at last week's levels.
