Italy: Partnership produces light, modern and economical covers and structures

A perfect partnership has been formed between Retilplast, a company specialized in the production, transformation and marketing of nets, plastic covering and tarpaulins, and Metallurgica Irpinia, a firm which produces metal posts and wire mesh.

"For three days (10-13 October), at Agrilevante in Bari, we'll present this fruitful collaboration which allowed the realization of ultramodern and economical structures and covers, useful for protecting and improving fruit and vegetable crops both in qualitative and quantitative terms," said Walter Ruggia, head of technological innovation at Retilplast in an interview with FreshPlaza.

"We're talking about iron posts from sheet metal, shaped and pre-stressed, which are fixed in the ground at 30 cm deep, comprising anchors and small bases. The posts inside the structure will have a diameter of 50 mm and a thickness of 1 mm, whereas the ones outside will have a diameter of 60 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. It will be a light structure, easy to transport and to assemble, but at the same time resistant and functional".

"Because it is light, this is an ideal system to export, which will appeal to clients in European and extra European countries as well. It is a comprehensive investment in structure, covering and mounting at a very cheap price".

"We've tried it out on our Apulian crops of cherries and apricots, when a few months ago we encountered appalling weather conditions, with storms ranging from 80 to 100 km/h. The structure resisted the gales and remained intact. Now growth retardant is being used on traditional crops as well for several agronomic reasons, such as for example to ease harvesting. Our solutions are ideal for blueberries, raspberries, table grapes and cherries: that is for all plants up to 3 meters high".
