Agro Businessclub Westland visits Cargoboss - Van Daalen transport

"We'll be running on hydrogen in ten years"

The new construction of Cargoboss and Van Daalen transport has been around for a while. Yesterday, the members of the Agro Business Club Westland were invited to visit the transport company and a tour was given through the cross-docking facilities on site.

Piece of history
First, the attendees were presented with a piece of history about both companies by Messrs Gerard van den Bos and Aris van Daalen. In the end, this is what brought the company to what it now stands for. "As a company, we have specialised in groupage transport to Switzerland, Germany and northern France," says Aris in his presentation. “More than half a million pallets go through our cross-docking each year and we can schedule multiple different unloading addresses on a truck. We not only supply to wholesalers, but also increasingly to the DCs of major retailers. "

Drivers
Congestion, driver shortages and sustainability. These are subjects that Cargoboss and Van Daalen also have to deal with. "The Dutch drivers are disappearing and that is why we as a company also have to look out for drivers from Eastern Europe," says Gerard. “That is why we have provided sleeping facilities for drivers coming from far away in the new building. They can spend the night here next to the company's depots. It remains the biggest challenge for our company: finding sufficient drivers. ”

A bit of the future
It is clear that for Aris and Gerard the future of transport is on the road and staying that way. "We will run on hydrogen in ten years," Aris expects. "In the meantime, we will have to bridge this with LNG and bio-LNG as alternatives to diesel." We have explicitly chosen to specialise as a company in speed and groupage. Then other modalities are also less interesting for us. Certainly because we deliver everything within a 1000 kilometer radius. The specialty of our company is also the reason that we do not have cold stores on our premises. Everything that arrives at our site in Maasdijk is unloaded and reloaded the same day. So nothing remains. In order to be able to drive journeys quickly, we have a number of support points in, for example, Eschbach, Venlo and Koblenz, where we can change drivers. That makes our transport fast and flexible. "

This was followed by a tour of the company's offices, cross-docking and the driver's hotel. "We initially built the new depot with an eye to the future," says Aris. "It turned out that we needed it the same year to be able to process all pallets."
