“Bio Story Day” at Mesfruits

“Story Inored is adapted to organic production in the south of France”

As the harvest is about to start, the company Mesfruits, located in southeastern France, opened its organic orchards to visitors. This orchard is situated on the Beaucaire plain. The goal of this event was to promote the Story Inored variety (COV). This day brought together all the actors of the apple sector: nurserymen, producers, technicians, salesmen and buyers. Twenty-five producers came to discover this Story Inored (COV) orchard in third leaf and certified organic. In order to start producing organic, Mesfruits had chosen to create its orchard on virgin ground. Forming only one block over an area of 20 hectares, the orchard will produce 700 tons of Story apples. In total, for the 2019 harvest, there are 30 hectares of Story Bio apples at Mesfruits, representing a volume of 800 tons.

“Today, the results are very encouraging because the variety is adapted to the organic production in the south of France. The color is very nice, the caliber is high, and the fruits present no external flaws. These conditions allow for a good packaging rate meeting the criteria from the buyers of organic fruits. Moreover, thanks to its flavor, its sugar levels and its crisp texture (very firm), this apple is very popular among consumers,” explains Hugo Mestre of Mesfruits.

 Two new varieties

Olivier Grard, Matthieu Bouniol and François Chevalier of the Gradilis nurseries took the opportunity to present to the producers the latest innovations of the Novadi group. The Inobi (COV), a two-colored apple which is harvested after the Gala, and the Inogo (COV), a yellow apple harvested at the same time as the Golden. These latest varieties present the same advantages as their older sister, the Story Inored (COV).
