Kanzi® harvest undamaged by heat; will appear in stores soon

The new Kanzi® harvest will be available in store soon. Despite all the heat records in Europe, 2019 turned out to be a good year: literally every flower turned into an apple. Three Kanzi® growers share their secrets for this great yield.

Kanzi® growers never had to thin as much as this year. This means that if the bunches are too thick, they remove apples so that the other apples can grow to a good size. Brothers Roland and Alouis Van der Zandt, Kanzi® growers from the Betuwe region, explain: “An apple tree must be optimally balanced. It is important that there are not too many apples on the tree, at the expense of taste and color. We know for sure that extra attention and care for a tree make the difference between a moderate and a good harvest."

"We have less influence on the weather," says Herman Vanmarsenille from Gingelom, Belgium. “Apples are and always will be a natural product. This year we were not spared by the bright sun. We have had quite a few burned apples. But luckily we have hail nets that mask the direct sun a bit and we’ll still get a great harvest. ”The drought and bright sun were also the biggest concern for the brothers van der Zandt. “Fortunately, we grow the Kanzi® apple. That is a strong apple that can withstand the heat well. On the tree but also afterwards. In contrast to other apples, the Kanzi® apples even saw a huge sales peak after the warm period."

German grower Hubert Bernard from the Bodensee region is also very positive about his Kanzi® apples. “The last 2 years we have had huge frost damage. We could not supply the market well. The Kanzi® variety, however, still had a good yield despite the weather and we were able to deliver them without any problems. This year we had no hail and no frost, so we are expecting great things of the crop this year.”

Kanzi® is giving away a fully catered trip for 2 people to New York City. In addition to this great trip, consumers also have a chance to win one out of ten Sony Bluetooth speakers. The competition runs from 1 October to 31 December 2019.
