Orange market has recently been stable

Small oranges as a result of drought in Chinese orchards

Orange sales flourished during the holidays, but the drought in several major production areas still continues. The fruit size is relatively small in comparison with the same period last year. Some of the premature Gong oranges entered the market in Shaoguan, Guangdong, and Jiazhou, Guangxi, but in most other production areas the oranges are still on the tree. Farmers will wait for the fruit to become bigger and sweeter. The price of early-season, Nanfeng mandarins has recently been stable. The price of early-season mandarins with a ripe color is around 3 yuan [0.42 USD] per 0.5 kg. The price shows a steady increase as the supply volume of Nanfeng mandarins gradually grows.

Several large-scale orange traders recently discussed the most popular orange variety: the Jinqiu Shatang orange (CRIC 32-01). The current purchase price of this variety is around 4-7 yuan [0.56-0.98 USD] per 0.5 kg. Some people in the industry state that the flavor of this orange variety is not as good as the regular Shatang orange. Furthermore, the Jinqiu Shatang orange enters the market early in the season, which means that the price is relatively high. Many traders are hesitant. They prefer to wait and see how the market develops.
