Gerd Burmester, the commercial director of the Peruvian company Ecosac, announced that the company intended to export 1,450 containers of table grapes during this campaign, i.e. 3.5% more than the 1,400 containers it shipped in the previous campaign. The director said that 500 containers of the total to be exported this year would belong to the Red Globe variety and 950 containers would be of seedless grapes (of which they have more than 20 varieties).
The Red Globe variety is destined to 40 markets. Its main destination market is Latin America (Central America and Colombia), followed by North America, Europe, Korea, China, and Indonesia, among others. 40% of the seedless grapes will be sent to North America, 40% to Europe (including England), and the remaining 20% to Asia. He also said that Europe (including England), the United States, and Korea were mature markets for seedless grapes and that the Chinese market was growing and demanded more seedless grapes each year.
1,000 hectares of table grapes
Gerd Burmester said Ecosac had 1,000 hectares of table grapes, all installed in Piura. Of the total area, 270 hectares are of the Red Globe variety and the rest of seedless varieties. All hectares are in production.
He added that the company had maintained its Red Globe area, however, in recent years it has grown in the seedless segment of grapes. He also said that the company was evaluating increasing the production area of this fruit.
