A new internal logistics organization to enhance the work of operators and the timing of movements in order to provide the customers with a better service. Maap, Market AgroAlimentare of Padua, is working on this to improve its efficiency.

“We want to become a real logistic Hub", explains director Francesco Cera, "and to do this we need the best organization possible. Wholesale markets have underestimated logistics and the organizational sector behind it for too long. It is often thought that logistics is the same as porterage. We want to reject this stereotype and keep improving our work. Collaboration among the management body, wholesalers and the porters cooperative is the basis of our renovation.

Thanks to the new organization, which keeps improving, we aim to shorten the timing of loading and unloading. We also want to enhance the safety of our operators and provide the costumers with more and more services .
Coordination, organized spaces, nothing left to chance, reasoned product flows, faster loads, respect for schedules, confrontation and dialogue: these are the key concepts. "Some international studies", director Cera continues, "show that 20% of the costs can be recovered, even thanks to an efficient reorganization only".
While this process of improvement is underway, in September Maap has recorded a +8% of volumes marketed. "It will be possible to take stock only at the end of this year," comments director Cera, "because certain months have shown a negative trend". If this trend continues until the end of December, it is likely that we will recover the volume losses of the beginning of this year. The value of the fruit and vegetables sold has remained almost unchanged".
"We rely on export, which is an important channel for our company" says wholesalers' president Luca Brusadelli. "We have always exported products and almost all our wholesalers sell goods throughout Europe".
In order to strengthen relations with foreign operators, from 22nd to 24th October 2019 Maap can be found at the Fruit Attraction in Madrid. "We work very often in Madrid" concludes director Cera, "and this time there will be also some operators of the Market with us. The aim is to make it possible to meet importers from all over the world, especially from those countries which we can more easily reach with our fruit and vegetables. We try to give our wholesalers and foreign operators more opportunities to meet each other and establish relations".
