BLE Market Report KW39/19:

Tomatoes: Dutch and Belgian lots central in a lush assortment

Dutch and Belgian lots were at center stage in a lush range. Poland mainly sent tomatoes. Italy mostly contributed cherry tomatoes. Germany and Spain had a complementary character. The sales were quite uneven. In general, demand could be covered with ease and the quality usually left nothing to be desired.

In Berlin and Munich, supply and demand were harmonized sufficiently. However, round tomatoes from the Netherlands and Belgium were scarce, making them significantly more expensive. The cheaper Polish articles generated increasing popularity. In Frankfurt, the Dutch and Belgian shipments dropped in price, so that for the Polish only a small proportion of the business remained and these were no longer ordered. There turkey panicles only cost  € 4 to 5 per 5 kg, which is why they could be handled quickly. In Hamburg, traders initially raised their prices, which the customers acknowledged with a noticeable restraint. This meant prices were crumbling from the middle of the week again, which accelerated the settlement. The quotations for qualitatively unconvincing Polish supplies declined in the Hanseatic city meanwhile.

Apples
Germany evidently shaped events here. Supply and demand were mostly consistent. The autumnal weather intensified the access.

Pears
Italy dominated with Abate Fetel, Santa Maria and Williams Christ. In general, the offered quality was convincing. The occasional demand did not keep pace with the increased deliveries, which resulted in lower prices.

Table grapes
Italy prevailed here, with numerous varieties. Overall, prices did not show a clear trend; there was both lowering and raising of prices, dependent on place and time.

Peaches and nectarines
The season is nearing completion: supply shrank noticeably. In addition, quality was not always optimal.

Plums
Germany obviously dominated the market. First and foremost there was Presenta, Hauszwetschge and Top. In general, trade was uneventful.

Lemons
South Africa prevailed. Spanish Verna supplemented, with the appearance of Primofiori from new crop is expected in the near future.

Bananas
As a rule, the inflow from the ripening had been sufficiently matched to the accommodation possibilities. In addition, the autumnal weather caused relatively smooth sales.

Cauliflower
Local shipments dominated events. Availability generally dropped. However, it was enough to satisfy the demand.

Lettuce
In the case of lettuce, Germany was more present than Belgium. Supply was limited, but sufficient to meet demand. Prices dropped at certain points.

Cucumbers
There was some movement on offer, as the availability of Spanish products evidently expanded. These now formed the foundation of the product range.

Sweet peppers
The dominant Dutch batches lost and Spanish lots gained in importance. Poland and Belgium rounded off events.
