Workshop discusses supply chain trends in China

On September 28th, the “Future Agriculture and Fresh Supply Chain” workshop, organized by vcearth.com, a service platform for the agriculture sector, took place in Beijing, when around 250 people took part. This workshop discussed technological innovations “from the field to the table”, where guests from various segments of the distribution chain of fresh agricultural products shared the changes and innovations they have observed within the sector.

“The discussions brought a few leading trends in the supply chain to my attention: multi-level supply chains will become the direction of the sector; in terms of artificial intelligence, technology will be able to empower the fresh supply chain, reduce the links that result in waste and losses, and improve the efficiency of the fresh produce supply; in terms of new retail models, the consumer market will become more diversified, while the share of the traditional channel of farmer's markets will be reduced,” Ms. Qing Xiwen, organizer of the workshop summarized.

“The trends in the supply chain can be discussed in terms of its upstream, midstream, and downstream businesses. In the future, the degree of agricultural mechanization in the upstream of the supply chain will be greatly improved; as a result, labor and land productivity will increase, and the production efficiency on the supply side will also increase substantially. In terms of cold chain logistics in the mid-stream. The infrastructure will be improved, technologies will be upgraded and optimized, and relevant post-harvest preservation technologies will be further improved. In terms of the end consumer market in the downstream, the penetration rate of e-commerce will increase, the share of the traditional farmer's markets will decline, and that of the e-commerce and home delivery markets will expand,” Ms. Qing added.

Vcearth.com is a future-oriented service platform for the agriculture sector that regularly organizes industry seminars. “This event explored the real problems and experience within the fresh supply chain industry, and participants from various segments of the sector shared new trends. We received a lot of feedback from participants who hoped to take part in more such events. To jointly promote the virtuous development of the sector, we also hope to establish cooperation with companies within various segments of the supply chain," Ms. Qing concluded.
