Adriaan van Belzen, Daily Onions:

"Everyone's upset - from the UK with Brexit to the Dutch with CO2 emissions"

Whether it be England and the issues with Brexit or the Netherlands and CO2 - it seems everyone is upset about something. This is according to Adriaan van Belzen of the Dutch company, Daily Onions. "The British onion market is relatively quiet."

"This is being caused, in part, by the surplus of large English onions and a good seed onion harvest. Who knows what is going to happen with Brexit. It has, however, caused a lot of damage in the meantime. And no-one has become any the wiser."

"There are fewer very large onions, of the 75+ size, in the UK. This decrease is because several substances may longer be used there. This seems to be the downside of ever-increasing regulations. These are going to have an impact on agriculture."

"It is a pity that more and more NGOs and other scientists are being given the stage. Their claims do not line up with the reputation we have taken years to build," says Adriaan.

"People overseas have high regard for Dutch knowledge and product quality. This has become clear in recent years. Dutch products are being imported in all corners of the world."

"I do not assume to have all the answers. But, as long as I keep seeing more airplanes flying overhead than there are cows in the pasture, I would say we are not doing so well. I would almost go as far as to say we are all being deceived," concludes the onion exporter.
