The new peach season has arrived. Peaches from Shandong will arrive on the market in the next few weeks. The weather conditions were great in March when the peach trees were in bloom and farmers are quite satisfied with the development of peaches this year.
Mr. Liao of Shanghai Meixin Network Technology Co., Ltd. has provided insights into the Chinese peach industry. According to him the typhoon and rainy weather in recent months have not had a significant impact on the development of peaches in Shandong.
"The production volume is extremely large this year. This is on the one hand because the peaches enjoyed suitable weather conditions and on the other hand because we expanded the overall surface area devoted to peach plantation. Our Snow White Red peach variety from Shandong sold very well last year. We therefore decided to invest in the production of this peach variety. We will begin our harvest in about 10 days and then we will begin to promote our fresh peaches in the Chinese market."

The e-commerce industry in China has rapidly developed and an increasing number of companies participate in online retail. Mr. Liao also operates an online shop. He offers customer services and delivers directly to clients.
"In China, this is an extremely popular retail method. Other orchards use different retail channels such as wholesale markets and fruit stores, but we invest all our effort into our online shop. As a matter of fact, this is the most suitable retail strategy for our business. Our peaches are relatively large and quite popular with Chinese consumers who prefer larger peaches. We take advantage of our popularity to develop our market share. Market demand grows daily and the price of large peaches rises quicker than the price of small peaches."

The peach is a delicate type of fruit, which can easily suffer from bruises or worse damage during transport.
According to Mr. Liao, "in our opinion, the delicacy of peaches is not a huge problem. When we prepare the peaches for transport the peaches are not yet completely ripe. At that time the peaches are still a bit hard. This is helpful because the peach is better protected during transport and does not as easily suffer damage. After consumers purchase our peaches they should leave the fruit in their home for a couple days to give the peaches the opportunity to fully mature. After a few days the peaches are ready for consumption. Up until now all our market feedback has been extremely positive. People love the taste of our peaches."
