Schamel Meerrettich delicatessen presents new and well-tried product selection at Anuga

"It is important for us to make organic horseradish available to consumers"

The traditional Bavarian company Schamel Meerrettich has often been represented at Anuga and will present an excerpt from its wide range of products this year. In addition to the classic products, all of which have a new design, the focus is on the new Bavarian organic horseradish and the grated rustic horseradish, says Managing Director Matthias Schamel.

The company management: Matthias Schamel (l) and Andreas Schöppl.

The Schamel company has been certified organic for several years, but there has not yet been any organic horseradish product range for the consumer. "The organic trend continues, and it is important to us that food retailing also offers something to the consumer, and those who buy organic salmon also need organic horseradish," says Schamel.

Shelf placement
The shelf placement of the organic range is still quite challenging: "The organic products are of course non-sulfurized and therefore they must be cooled accordingly at the PoS., That is, they are not found in the dry assortment like the conventional horseradish but in the refrigerated shelves the organic horseradish is placed next to organic salmon, for example, to create a mutual synergy at the PoS," says Schamel.

The Bavarian organic horseradish is grown by valued organic farmers and grows in fields around the horseradish town of Baiersdorf. Organic horseradish has a two-digit unique selling point due to the organic quality and the Bavarian GGA seal (Geographical Protected Indication).

A second novelty is grated rustic horseradish : hand picked horseradish, sold freshly grated and processed.

Strong in three trading areas
The family business Schamel was founded in 1846 in the horseradish town of Baiersdorf in Bavaria and is the oldest horseradish brand in the world. The company mainly supplies a broad customer base in the D-A-CH countries, but also serves customers in Eastern Europe and Asia. "Our main markets are food retailing, the food processing industry, as well as the catering and bulk consumer sectors, and we hope to get in touch with the trade decision makers at Anuga."
