Exports barely affected

"Warm winter reduces pomelo production volume in China"

"The pomelo production volume in China is shaped by several factors. One of these is the weather during the period when pomelo trees blossom. This year the pomelo trees were affected by warm winter weather during the blossom period and the overall production volume declined by 20%-30%. However, export is not seriously affected." This is according to Vickie Lin from Xiamen Bona Industry Co., Ltd.

"During this production season the official harvest period began in August and will continue until December. Pomelos appear on the market around 1 week after being harvested to guarantee the degree of freshness. The overall product quality of pomelos this year was around the same level as last year. The volume of large pomelos is relatively big. The export market prefers pomelos that weigh between 1 and 1.5 kg. The volume of large pomelos has an effect on pomelo export, but the effect is extremely limited. We can generally sell the larger pomelos in the domestic market."

Variation in pomelo packaging

"As for the price, the current price is quite low. However, we are not worried about that. The price of pomelo declines in response to abundant supply as is the case for most agricultural products. This is the period when pomelos enter the market in large volumes and the price is therefore low. Market supply will decline when the production season comes to an end and the price will rise again. Furthermore, this production season the appearance is very good. The color is perfect. And good products can always fetch a good price."

"At the moment we sell our pomelos in the domestic market as well as in the export market. We export pomelos to Europe, Russia, and Canada. Overseas market demand is more or less the same as last year. Only the market demand from Russia increased in comparison with last year. This year we will participate in the Moscow International Food Exposition, which takes place in Russia between September 24th and 27th. We participate in this exposition to meet our current customers and to find opportunities for market expansion in countries around Russia. We welcome all participants to visit our stand in Hall 3 at booth B785."
