Supermarket chains want to further expand market leadership together

Aldi Nord and Süd set ambitious goals in terms of organics

In terms of organic goods, ALDI Nord and ALDI SÜD have set themselves ambitious goals: They want to strengthen their market leadership with regard to the sales of organic food stuffs and expand their product range. To be able to more efficiently meet these goals, on 18 September, the two companies discussed organic trends and innovations in a meeting with strategic partners and external experts.

The invitation to the first Organic Supplier Strategy Day, organized by ALDI Nord and ALDI SÜD, led to an event involving around 120 participants. Among other things, suppliers and partners reported about their experiences with best practice examples in various keynote speeches. Also, several trend-setting nutritional trends were being presented. Also on site was Philipp Lahm, who has owned the traditional company Schneekoppe since 2018 and who is currently selling 15 products exclusively through ALDI. The former national footballer talked about his passion for organic goods and how he took his first steps as an organic entrepreneur: "I liked the idea of making good, organic-quality food available to a broad audience and people to support a healthy life. With ALDI we have found the right distribution partner for this and want to become better and better in the future."

Promoting organic agriculture and expanding the product range. "Through our consistent trade in organic products, we enable our customers sustainable consumption and promote organic farming as a sound and sustainable form of agriculture," said Kristina Bell, Group  Director Purchasing at ALDI SÜD for quality management & corporate responsibility. "We want to systematically expand and develop our organic range. A close, partnership-based exchange with our suppliers is particularly important to us," added Rayk Mende, Managing Director Corporate Responsibility & Quality Assurance at ALDI Nord.

ALDI is the market leader for organic in Germany
Organic products account for 5.7 percent of ALDI Nord's own sales and 7.8 percent of ALDI SÜD's private labels. According to GfK, ALDI is the market leader in organic food sales with more than 13 percent.

Varied organic products
All organic products available from ALDI are certified in accordance with the EU Organic Regulation and labeled with the green EU-Bio logo. ALDI currently offers over 700 organic products in the standard range or is selling these items in test, seasonal and promotional settings. Among these are fruits and vegetables, dairy products, but of course meat and frozen foods as well. Thus, both discounters offer their clients the opportunity to do their entire weekly shopping whilst buying goods of organic quality.

Schneekoppe
In addition to the proprietary organic brands, ALDI Nord and ALDI SÜD have been operating all over Austria, exclusively offering 15 high-quality products of organic quality under the well-known brand Schneekoppe since May 2, 2019. Owner of the traditional company since 2018 is the former football player Philipp Lahm. With Schneekoppe, the two companies have gained a marketer with decades of experience in the health food sector as a long-term cooperation partner and can offer good-tasting products of organic quality at affordable prices.
