Currently, very few stockpilers are purchasing garlic to put into storage, only wholesale markets in China are still making orders to meet the demand. This is the result of high volumes of supply from other production regions, the pricing expectations of stockpilers, and volumes available in storage and outside storage. The trading of garlic outside storage has stabilized, and buyers have control over the quality and prices as there is abundant supply and limited demand, and prices differ between production areas.
Despite the lower supply of garlic outside storage compared with last year, orders are coming in slowly due to the above unfavorable factors. As such supply doesn’t have the advantage of garlic in storage, orders made for export usually choose the latter. Therefore, although the supply is limited, the number of buyers is also limited. As sellers are actively shipping, buyers naturally are pickier on the quality or put pressure on prices, resulting in a difficult market for garlic outside storage.
